Lookups are List of Values or Encoded Lists that can be used to validate the contents of an inbound flat file. For example, let us assume that a flat file has a 'Gender' column that is supposed to have values 'Male', 'Female' and 'Other'. A Lookup can be created with the valid list of values for 'Gender' and then can be used to validate the data in the 'Gender' column in the inbound flat file to verify if the values match the valid lookup values.

Lookups are of two types :

List

This Lookup type contains a finite list of values, separated by commas, that are manually entered by the user.

Query

This Lookup type contains a list of values that are retrieved from the database. Query lookups can be further classified into two types depending on their refresh mechanism.

  • Static –The List of Values are retrieved once or on demand.
  • Dynamic –The List of Values are refreshed during test plan run.
